Working to Keep Pinecrest Successful!
It is a pleasure to work with Mayor Corradino and Village Council to make sure Pinecrest continues infrastructure improvements that benefit residents and visitors. This past legislative session proved productive with $500,000 brought back for improvements to the village’s storm-water infrastructure. Additionally, my office recently had the opportunity to assist with securing an extension of a grant request to allow Pinecrest to continue using state funding to improve their wonderful parks.
While these important infrastructure projects on land are moving forward, there are unaddressed issues festering in the waters of Pinecrest, and adjacent communities.
During my outings with marine law enforcement, I have learned there are almost no speed restrictions on canals throughout South Florida. Deaths and serious injuries among Jet Ski enthusiasts have become far too common and something needs to be done. In my view, Pinecrest and neighboring communities should work together to petition for the establishment of speed restrictions to avoid unnecessary, tragic, and gruesome injuries or deaths. Clear communication between all interested parties will be required to accomplish this critical goal, something my office is happy to help facilitate.
Since the COVID-19 pandemic began, the amount of registered vessels have exploded as people clamored to leave lock-down states and zoom meetings to enjoy our amazing water resources. In the face of this increased number of vessel registrations, our communities deserve a new level of accountability and new ideas for how to better and more safely utilize the waters of South Florida.
Another important issue is short-term rentals that were never part of the masterplan of Pinecrest. This upcoming session, in conjunction with Mayor Corradino’s advice, I look to address these important issues. It is my honor to serve as your Senator.
